“Housing solutions for veterans and their families a priority!”
Last week Vasey Communities CEO, Nicki Young, had the honour to attend and present at the Coffs Harbour Defence and Veteran Community Forum, a free event for current and serving ADF members and their families to learn about local support and services.
Importantly, beyond the introductory session that talked broadly about supporting veterans, the focus session for the day was on housing issues and solutions, a clear indication that the NSW Government Office for Veterans Affairs recognises and appreciates the challenges faced here. Not only at a national housing crisis level but specifically for veterans and their families, an area that Vasey Communities operates in.
For Nicki there were three key messages from the day;
1. The NSW Minister and his Office are doing important work in being a strong voice and advocate for veteran related issues.
2. The current importance and relevance of delivering practical housing solutions for veterans and their families is a critical agenda item, and in fact one that has led to our own Constitution being revised as recently as this July to enable Vasey Communities in future to support veterans with housing support services in their own communities as well as our current five retirement living villages in Sydney.
3. The never ending need and reliance on local community groups and services to support veterans in their local catchment areas.
Hosted by Caroline Mackaness NSW Government Office for Veterans Affairs, the Forum brought together a wide range of organisations that exist to support veterans and enabled much connection and discussion about mutual participation to these ends.
